Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan is a native of in and was raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam is Jazmine's mom, and is an ex-backing singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five her father was selected as Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later to the historic mansion. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts as an alumna of the vocal music department. Sullivan sang as a contralto member of the children's choir . Later, a few more years later she joined in the adults ' choir. Sullivan was not exposed the world of secular music for the first time. "I was singing for the first time solo in the church, and someone wanted me to sign up for a gospel recording when I was 11. But I wasn't ready to go through with it," she says. "Then when McDonald's had a competition for students in big cities, I got a chance to perform 'Accept What God Allows' on It's Showtime on the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". In the year 13 she sang along with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was first signed to Jive Records at the age fifteen. The label recorded her an entire album, but it was never released. Sullivan was then dropped on the labels. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott, who produced some of the songs from her debut, like the huge hit track "Backstabbers" composed by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
